Having started this discussion, I should note that my "save it all" comes
with certain "excepts!" For example, there is no reason to save data in
duplicate forms (i.e. an ARC recording which was issued on six to twenty
different labels, all using the exact recording!) All that needs to be
saved is the list of labels and numbers issued! I.e., once we know that
Oriole 6-02-06 and Perfect 6-02-06 (et all) contain the same take of
The Joe Gabroni Five's "Cockroach Stomp," we need not save both sound
files; however, the "metadata" needs to be entered in the applicable
database. As well, there are items (spam messages, junk mail, usw.)
for which preservation may be well more than they deserve!

So, thus rephrased, my directive becomes "Save one copy of it...only
if it appears it has, or will, somehow affect ordinary popular culture!"
For example, do we need to save a copy of every "LOST CAT!" poster...?!
