Peer pressure is a big deal however music seems to mean a lot less in
general to kids than it used to. I don't think any new "trendy" music has
replaced the old, just that there is a void.

I totally agree that pop music has been mostly posers rather than innovators
for at least 30 years. My suspicion is that nobody's fooling the kids and
that this is precisely why music hasn't been very competitive in the
entertainment business. When I watch movies from the '30s and '40s I'm
always struck by how innovative and fresh most of the music used was for its
time.
