On the user side, Microsoft no longer makes a Windows Media player for
Mac, but there's a free plugin called Flip4Mac that allows you to play
WMA/WMV clips in the QuickTime player..."

It is still very much available and has just been turned into a plug-in that
will remain very much officially supported by Microsoft.

The latest windoze media codecs are first rate and Microsoft, to their
credit, is the only outfit I'm aware of investing in actual research to
improve codec technology. While Apple licensed some of the best technology,
Microsoft hired the people who developed a lot of the technology both Apple
and Real uses.

Dismissing windows media is a pretty short sighted point of view that
suggests CU's multi-media gurus need to do their homework.

(and by the way, I have no love for Gates.)
