The Ampex 200 ran at 30 ips the 201 ran 15/30 (at least mine do) the mod
was done the same time as Ampex changed to 300 head blocks the speed
switch is inside the machine at the capstan motor

I can confirm this, from Ampex literature and manuals. The 300 was
marketed to broadcasters and 
studios, and literature noted its reduced cost and improved specs and
reliability. The 7.5IPS speed 
was aimed at broadcasters and educational/non-professional music
applications.

As far as I can tell, the first Ampex example of a 3.75IPS speed option
was the 450 background-music 
system.
