Career Workshop: Ethnographic Media Archives

This workshop is for those now or potentially interested in a career in
ethnographic media archives. It is open to the public. Parking is
available for $8 in Lot 2, located at the intersection of Westholme Ave. and
Hilgard Ave.

The discussants are:
Tony Seeger
Prof. Seeger served as Director of Smithsonian Folkways Recordings at the
Smithsonian Institution from 1988 to 2000. He served as Director of the
Archives of Traditional Music at Indiana University and as a professor in
the Department of Anthropology from 1982 to 1988. He was a researcher and
professor in the Department of Anthropology at the Museu Nacional in Rio de
Janiero from 1975 to 1982. He has written numerous articles on archiving and
intellectual property. He is currently Professor of Ethnomusicology at UCLA
and Director of the Ethnomusicology Archive.
Aaron Bittel
Since January 2008 Aaron Bittel has worked as Archivist-Librarian with an
emphasis on Digital Media for the Ethnomusicology Archive. Aaron completed
his MA in Ethnomusicology at UCLA in June 2006 and then attended Syracuse
University's School of Library and Information Science, where he completed
his MSLIS in December 2007.
Kevin C. Miller
Doctoral Candidate Miller is interested in musics of the South Asian
Diaspora: Indo-American; Indo-Fijian; the Ramayana; issues of cultural
identity; community and representation. He plans to go forward into areas
of archiving.
