Re: [ARSCLIST] Paul Robeson Discography
I recognize this as a major omission in available discographic work.
There are numerous listings, usually organized by song title, but giving
only
an lp or cd reference, sometimes listing 78s but only catalog numbers. I
have seen No detailed discographic data (recording date, matrix,
accompaniment, issue date, label, catalog number, reissues, etc.).
Data for the easily obtainable records, Victor/HMV, Columbia, Philips,
Keynote, Othello, Chant du Monde/Monitor, Vanguard etc. is contained in the
annotations of the many CD reissues, Victor Master books, album notes etc.
The Russian recordings MAY be documented in the Melodiya discography
(?Greenwood Press).
There are many other records, from the late 40's through the sixties,
issued in small numbers from Europe (e.g. the CHANTE POUR LE PAIX 78rpm from
France, the Transatlantic cable recording from Topic UK, also issued in New
Zealand (not the LP issued by the Welsh miners and reissued by Folk-Era and
Sain on CD), the Australian Daily Worker 20th Anniversary Message of Peace
LP), and many releases from Soviet bloc countries, which are largely
undocumented.
I am casually accumulating information as I find it about these
recordings. Anyone who has these limited records, please send data. If
there is interest, I will publish the accumulated data on this list.
Best wishes, Thomas.

This appears to be LP and CD issues with only occasional 78s. That it is
incomplete is not surprising given the number of unofficial reissues,
but it does not even include the Supraphon LP I will be offering at my
WWW site next week. At least with regard to spelling, its accuracy
leaves something to be desired.
