Radio stations sometimes get the cut out version of an album (on CD) but I
am not sure if that is supposed to function as a promotional copy.  I
believe that the bar code sometimes has a circle cut out or it is stamped
promotional on the cover of disc or LP.  By the way I own a cassette with a
cut out on the bottom of the case (on spine).  However, not sure about the
8-tracks.  Although, I admit I have not seen many cassettes with the cut
out.
