Today at 6 WAMU's running a show I've put together based on some
fascinating 1937 calypso narratives:
Where Was Butler? Labor Day Calypsos
When Baptist preacher Uriah Butler led colonial Trinidad's labor movement
in the 1930s, power coalitions felt the heat, responded with deadly force,
and mobilized the working population behind him. Host Dick Spottswood
tells the story and highlights the music it inspired.
It's on line at www.wamu.org.
Best wishes, Dick
