Re: [ARSCLIST] Re-Grooving Records?
Along these lines, many years ago there were dealers in England and
perhaps elsewhere who would wax records to hide the wear they
otherwise displayed. It was difficult to remove and one was very
reluctant to buy anything else from the dealer. The record one
purchased would be worth a great deal less than the dealer had
received for it. Most dealers recognized that what they were selling
was bought for considerable sums of money sight unseen and that the
people who collected records, especially rarities, were active in the
market for many years.
Perhaps someone else could explain what this re-grooving process is.
What other than cleaning do they do to CDs? CDs can simply be
duplicated without loss.

Oh, I'm not the seller... I happen to be on the mailing list for a
record auction list and these "Re-Grooved" records pop up on his
list from time to time... I was just curious as to how the process
works... maybe the next auction list I will bid on one that has
been regrooved to see for myself if the process is any good... it
would be great if someone would eventually come up with a process
to re-surface records like they do with CDs.
