When we started to use the Esoteric ATEN 16" transcription turntable over ten years ago, it was one of the best TT's available, it didn't have an anti-skate capability. The current ones today do, although their overall appearance still looks pretty much the same as my "Vintage" unit.
In the original instructions, it suggests to get away from skipping, "Increase tracking weight, juri-rig (Sp?) anti-skating with string and small weights to pull arm from skipping." Well, I found that I could just raise the two left feet on an angle by putting equal numbers of CD's under them until the tracking worked. This was especially good when there were bad scratches or bumps on the surface of LP's.
I guess I could even turn the deck upside down, because of its well-balanced tonearm if I so desired, but most of my work even today is fairly straight forward, thank goodness.
