Re: [ARSCLIST] Virgin Sacrifice

I would like to know the history myself.I do seem to recall seeing a Sears or Wards catalog from the 1910s,where they advertised Victor,Columbia, and their own label.

I'm sure there are a lot of here, who bought punk in the late 70s,and early 80s.Unless you lived near a very large city, you had to buy these records mail order. from ads in weird little magazines.Stores did not carry them.I was a little surprised when I came across country magazines from the late 40s,and rhythm and blues magazines from the mid 50s,with ad after ad of people selling indie label 78s.

The one MAJOR question which I have NEVER seen an answer thereto
is this...

WHEN/WHERE/WHO expanded "record dealers" from their original
format...where they were franchised as "dealers" for single makes of
records ("Buy this new release at your Victor(usw.) dealer NOW!")
to "record stores"as I recall them from the fifties...which offered
virtually ALL record labels!

I have a few c.194? advertising lists from record stores, that seem
to offer ALL the labels...so the change must have taken place sometime
in the thirties...?!
