Re: [ARSCLIST] Any good tips to flatten warped 78's?
Anyone got any good recipes to get the warp out of a 78? Especially
tips that don't involve costly pieces of gear? Anything a person
can do with standard household objects or appliances?

In the case of single-layer stock shellac pressings, I have had an
almost 100% success rate with two pieces of glass and the noonday sun.
More specifically, I position the warped record on a small glass-top
coffee table. I place an approx. 12" x 12" spare pane of window glass
on top of the disc, lift the glass table onto another, larger table.
That way I can easily monitor both sides of the disc. I leave the
disc in the sun for 20-30 mins, regularly checking on progress.
Without removing the glass pane from the disc, I put the table in the
shade again and allow the whole lot to cool for at least 10 minutes.
If the disc still displays signs of convexity, I repeat the process
for as long as it takes.
Exposure time will no doubt vary according climate and latitude. (I'm
in southern Europe)
The downside is that it doesn't really work with laminated Columbia/
Okeh biscuit-style pressings. Perhaps George would have suggestions
about these?
