Re: Serials microfilming



Paul,

I agree with Paula that the decision to film the entire run as opposed to
microfilming the issues with brittle material needs to be done on a title
by title basis.  In addition to the concerns described by Paula, we also
evaluate the entire run for completeness.  Microfilming a title is an
opportunity to fill in missing material through ILL and other means,so we
justify use of resources to create a better work than what we have at
hand. 

Space is always a problem it seems, so we may get some encouragement to
microfilm the entire run and discard the paper copies.

We also look at how much of the run is brittle.  In many cases, however,
we will only microfilm embrittled portions, as we need to marshal our
resources for microfilming primarily endangered material.
