ALA/PARS COOPERATIVE PRESERVATION PROGRAMS DISCUSSION GROUP
Saturday, January 10, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
New Orleans Convention Center, Room 90
During the first hour updates will be given from attending cooperative
preservation programs, The National Endowment for the Humanities,
Council on Library and Information Resources, Institute of Museum and
Library Service, and the Regional Alliance for Preservation (RAP)
The second hour will be devoted to the following topic:
Working Together: The relationship between large cooperatives and
smaller cooperatives, groups, and associations found within their
area. Several questions will be raised for discussion. 1) What is
currently being done to foster cooperation between these groups? 2)
How is participation facilitated and/or fostered? 3) Have you
encountered any resistance and why?

Topic: Why reinvent the wheel?: Creating a web site for sharing
preservation education materials. Discussion will address the
following issues: proposal to create a task force to establish and
maintain the site; gather input about the structure and content of the
web site; ideas for future expansion of the site.
Also featured is an update on the Preservation and Conservation
Studies program at the University of Texas at Austin followed by a
discussion about issues of interest to instructors of full-semester
preservation courses.
