Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts (the
"Center"), a non-profit regional conservation center located in
center city Philadelphia, PA, seeks a chief executive officer to
lead the Center, support its mission, and provide for its growth
and success through the management of all operations, ensuring a
high level of productivity and quality. The Center has a staff of
about twenty, and undertakes treatment of works of art on paper,
documents, and books, and provides preservation services in
addition to presenting outreach programs, and publishing brochures
addressing preservation concerns. The successful candidate will
also work to maintain a sound financial condition through careful
oversight of the Center's resources and through fundraising.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Director participates in the
development, implementation, and oversight of sales and marketing
plans (long-range and otherwise); plans, develops, and oversees the
financial program of the Center, as well as annual fundraising
objectives; initiates, with the Board of Directors and senior
administrative staff, strategic and long-range plans, and recruits,
supervises, and reviews key staff. In addition, the Executive
Director assures, through supervision of the Chief Conservator,
efficient laboratory production and provision of high quality
conservation services, while also managing, through supervision of
the Director of Preservation Services, the field service, outreach,
and education programs of the Center. The Executive Director also
maintains regular communication with the chairman and officers of
the Board of Directors, and represents the Conservation Center in
professional meetings and to other professional groups.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required attributes include a B. A. degree, a
minimum of five years of progressively greater responsibility in
managing a non-profit cultural institution, proven ability in
fund-raising, and demonstrated ability to manage a variety of tasks
at the same time, in addition to supervisory experience managing
staff. An ability to articulate the mission of the Center clearly
to its clients and supporters, and ability to work well with
others, and face and meet deadlines. Knowledge of the field of
conservation of documents and works of art on paper is highly
desirable, as is experience in working with a Board of Directors.
