Dear Colleagues:
The members of the (Esther J.) Piercy Award Jury are pleased to call for
nominations of potential candidates whom you believe meet the criteria
listed below. The DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING A NOMINATION PACKAGE IS
December 1, 1998.
The Piercy Award comprises a citation and $1,500 donated by Yankee Book
Peddler to recognize the contribution to those areas of librarianship
included in collections and technical services, that is, collection
development, acquisitions, cataloging, preservation, and serials, by a
librarian with not more than ten years of professional experience who
has
shown outstanding promise for continuing contributions and leadership.
The criteria are:
a) leadership in professional associations at local, state, regional,
or national level;
b) contribution to the development, application, or utilization of new
or
improved methods, techniques, and routines;
c) significant contribution to professional literature; and
d) conduct of studies or research in the technical services.
The deadline for nomination is December 1, 1998. The winner will be
honored and will be presented the award by the ALCTS President at the
1999
ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans.
Please submit nominations and applications including the candidate's
vita,
documentation, supporting letters and up to three examples of the
candidate's publications to the Chair of the Award Jury. The complete
package must be postmarked or sent via email no later than December 1,

Of course I would encourage nominations from the Preservation ranks but
any nominations are welcome.
