	    Library Specialist I
    Head of Binding and Shelf Preparation 
	   Available Immediately
Description:  The incumbent manages all activities of the 
Binding and Shelf Preparation Unit (formerly Materials 
Processing):
-- supervises 6.5 full-time staff and student assistants 
with responsibility for work performance, interviewing, 
hiring, and evaluation; trains staff in all unit tasks for 
spine labeling, insertion of security devices, book 
plating, and binding slip preparation; 
-- selects binding treatments and locates materials in 
process; communicates with and trains other library staff 
about binding and shelf preparation procedures and 
policies; advises library staff on binding options;
-- manages the commercial binding invoicing process by 
processing all invoices and maintaining an online database 
of all invoices; prepares reports on the status of binding 
accounts; manages the commercial binding operation by 
acting as primary contact with the commercial binders; acts 
as liaison and problem-solver between vendors and library 
staff;
-- assists with other aspects of the Libraries' 
Preservation Program as assigned.
Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent 
required.  Demonstrated supervisory experience required.  
Ability to work with bibliographic information in a variety 
of languages required.  Library experience and/or book 
binding experience preferred.  Knowledge of computer 
spreadsheet software preferred.
Salary and benefits:  Minimum salary as of July 1, 1999, 
will be $33,950.  Benefits include 23 days paid vacation, 
medical plan and tuition exemption for employee and family.
