POSITION AVAILABLE AT RUTGERS UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES

PRESERVATIONIST

Reporting to the head of Special Collections, plans and administers the
university's preservation program for rare books, manuscripts,
university archives and other rare, unique and valuable collections. 
Manages the preservation laboratory and performs preservation
treatments.  Uses and maintains sophisticated equipment.  Trains and
supervises preservation staff, educates library staff on the proper care
of library materials and provides workshops on preservation techniques
for colleagues and interested professionals.  With the head of Special
Collections and other colleagues, determines preservation projects for
external funding and develops grant proposals for such projects. 
Responsible for preservation concerns of gallery exhibitions and for
collection management activities.  Represents the unit on various
committees.  Keeps current on new technology in the field.

Requires a bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of
experience administering a preservation laboratory, including bench
work, planning, managing, training, and preferably, serving as a
principal investigator on externally funded projects.  Must have
excellent organizational, communication, and teaching skills. A master
of library science or related field is preferred.  Skills related to
digitization of library materials, general computer, and using databases
for compiling statistical information are desired.

It is antipated that the position will be filled by August 1st.  The
minimum salary is $38,220 and includes all state health and retirment
benefits, and Rutgers tuition remission.  To apply, please send a
