Position: Manager, Collections Storage and Care, Brown University Library

Under the supervision of the Head of the Preservation Department, oversees 
and manages the physical organization and care of the library's collections 
including staffing of the Collections Storage and Care Unit (CSC).  Works 
closely with CSC staff to plan for growth of collections and to insure that 
library users are able to quickly find needed materials.  Plans for and 
oversees activities associated with moving library material to off-site 
shelving locations and retrieval of library material as needed.  Assists in 
long-range planning for the Preservation Department.

Description:

Manages the transportation, shelving, storage and retrieval of library 
materials of all types.  Serves as a resource person In the library for 
issues related to storage, transportation, and retrieval of library 
materials.  Works closely with CSC staff to plan for growth of 
collections.  Coordinates relocation and installation of new shelving as 
needed.  Oversees shifts of material and re-arrangement of collections as 
necessary.  Plans for and coordinates activities associated with removing 
library material from open stacks, including removal of material from the 
collection for withdrawal or storage.   Monitors shelf-reading to ensure 
proper location of books on shelves.  Recommends acquisition of equipment 
such as stools, ladders, and bookends. Maintains adequate signage and shelf 
directories for easy location of materials by library patrons. Works with 
Bindery Manager to accommodate books needing repair or replacement.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and 
experience.  Demonstrated managerial and supervisory skills.  Library 
background helpful.  Experience working in a unionized environment 
desirable.  Service orientation essential.  Ability to manage multiple 
tasks at one time.  Excellent communication skills.  Working knowledge of 
computers and in applications for automated control systems.  Understanding 
of the library's mission and goals essential, ability to work 
collaboratively important.  Requires the ability to motivate staff in 
highly repetitive work which requires concentration and accuracy.  Physical 
stamina needed for extended periods to lift heavy objects and push loaded 
booktrucks.

Minimum Salary: $30,000
