Project Manager - Library
Our client, a contractor to a prestigious government medical library, seeks
applicants for the full-time position of on-site Project Manager for a
microfilm preparation contract in Bethesda MD, just north of Washington, DC.
The Library has a congressional mandate to preserve the biomedical
literature, achieved primarily by microfilming brittle volumes.
The Project Manager works closely with the Library's Preservation
and Collection Management Section, which is highly respected nationwide for
the quality of its microfilming program. Under the contract, project staff
prepare about 4,000 brittle volumes for filming a year. Most volumes are
older serials; many are in foreign languages.
The Project Manager's duties include supervising a staff of technicians who
collate volumes page-by-page, request replacements for missing pages and
issues, prepare targets, program reels, and update bibliographic and
holdings records. In addition, the Project Manager maintains a tracking
database of work in progress, compiles data for invoices, and is responsible
for quality assurance.
Minimum requirements for the Project Manager are a Master's Degree in
Library Science and at least three years of relevant experience within the
last six years in managing projects related to preservation microfilming,
collection maintenance, or library technical services. Past experience must
be commensurate with size and complexity of this project.
