* Friday, January 24   8:00 am - 12:30 pm or  
* Friday, January 24   1:30 pm - 6:00 pm (both tours include travel time by
chartered bus) Tour the DPR Center in Bethlehem, PA. The tour will include
microfilming and digitization facilities and will feature the new equipment
we've installed to support the historical newspaper digitization service,
powered by Olive. The Bethlehem Center is the only place in the US where
this factory is installed.

* Friday, January 24  1:30-4:30 pm OCLC Symposium: Growing the Digital
Library: From Projects to Programs- Tips, Tools, Collaborative Activities 
A panel of library leaders will describe the new learning environment and
skills necessary for building successful digital library programs. 
What will the new organization look like? 
What will your role be? 
What kind of education will be needed, and how can we accomplish that?
What new alliances will be crucial to success, and how can we start building
those now? We hope to provide answers to those questions, and to provide
attendees with a vision of the emerging digital library as a dynamic
learning organization able to predict, innovate and recreate itself in order
to meet the information and knowledge needs of the community as they arise.

* Sunday, January 26  9:00 am - 10:30 am Do Your Digital Collections Have an
Archive in Their Future? Issues, Standards, and Implementation
How will you preserve your digital collections: on CD, in a local or shared
digital archive? 

Sue Kriegsman, Harvard University, will discuss the issues behind digital
preservation strategies and define the standards and best practices that
support those strategies. Julie Schwartz and Stephen Slovasky, Connecticut
State Library, will describe their use of the OCLC Digital Archive to
capture state government publications, focusing on processes and decision
points such as selection and metadata creation.


* Sunday, January 26  2:00 pm - 3:30 pm Expanding Access through the Digital
& Preservation Cooperative Historical Newspaper Program (powered by Olive)
Learn about the most recent developments in preservation metadata, the OCLC
Digital Registry and digitizing historical newspaper collections with Olive
software. Hear from colleagues discussing their experiences and the
activities of Co-op Working Groups on these important efforts. 
Speakers include: Olive Newspaper Working Group- Normandy Helmer,
Coordinator of Preservation & Digital Services/ Oregon Newspaper Project,
University of Oregon Libraries; Preservation Metadata- Robin Wendler, Office
for Information Systems, Harvard University Library and Digital Registry-
Taylor Surface, Director, Digital Content Management Services, OCLC Digital
& Preservation Resources 

* Monday, January 27  9:00 am - 10:30 am Managing Digital Special
Collections with CONTENTdm
The program will include presentations by two institutions that have been
using CONTENTdm, the US Military Academy and Cleveland State University.
Representatives from those institutions will be sharing their success
stories about their digital projects. There will also be an update on
CONTENTdm, its current capabilities and the significant enhancements being
released in February 2003.

At this session, you will be able to interact with the presenters from the
US Military Academy and Cleveland State University as well as
representatives from OCLC and DiMeMa, the developers of CONTENTdm. We hope
you will be able to join us for this informative program. (Pre-registration
is not required.) The session will be held at the Marriott Courtyard, Room
103. The hotel is located close to the Convention Center at 21 N. Juniper
Street, 215-832-3043.
