[PADG:2146] Anyone know about bark preservation?

We are trying to figure out how to preserve folk art etched into aspen tree
bark, also called arborglyphs or sylvanglyphs.  They were done by Basque
sheep herders.  Any leads to publications or to bark preservation experts
would be appreciated.
