[PADG:28] booktrucks for moving

Good morning,

The DH Hill Library at NCSU is undergoing a major renovation beginning this fall, and all technical services will be relocated to a satellite facility one mile away from the main library. This means that approximately 1,000 books per week will have to be transfered from our shelf prep unit to the circulation desk in the main library.

Obviously, packing the books in boxes would take a lot of extra time, so I'm looking for booktrucks that would allow the books to be moved safely from the loading dock of our satellite facility onto a moving van (and strapped into place) and then onto the loading dock at the main library.

I've found some booktrucks called Samson Carts (available through Demco) that use bungee cords (!) stretched across the books to hold them in place, but I'm thinking there has to be something better out there. I've contacted a couple local "library" movers but haven't seen anything that appeals to me. Ideally, I'd have something covered that would protect the books from rain, etc.

We'll be in our satellite space for about 18 months, so I need something durable and reliable. If you have any ideas or suggestions (for booktrucks or on managing the workflow in general under these circumstances), please let me know on or off the list.

Many thanks,
Scott
