Audio/Moving Image Project Archivist/Surveyor
- Preservation Division -
Experienced audio/moving image archivist to conduct a survey of
approximately 40,000 items held in the Rare Book and Manuscript
Library, Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library, Burke
Theological Library, Starr East Asian Library, and Weiner Music
Library of Columbia University. The project is intended to collect
accurate, quantifiable information about quantities and types of
media, their physical condition, existence of intellectual control
and rights information, and potential research value using a
Microsoft Access relational database, in order to develop proposals
for future work. The archivist will use qualitative and
quantitative measures to assess these factors and produce reports.
The project archivist will establish benchmarks, monitor progress,
supervise part-time student assistants, and assure that deadlines
are met. The project is scheduled to be completed in two years,
pending funding of a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
Requirements: ALA accredited MLS or MA in archival management or
equivalent, with emphasis on audio and/or moving image management;
and a minimum of one year of experience in the field of audio
and/or moving image management. Knowledge of management and
preservation of audio and/or moving image collections; knowledge of
Microsoft Access or similar database software; ability to work
effectively, both independently and as a member of a team; strong
organizational and project management skills; ability to combine
accuracy and efficiency; excellent communication skills, both oral
and written.
The salary for the PC I position is commensurate with experience.
