Under the general direction of the Associate University Librarian for
Collections and Technical Services (AUL-CTS), the incumbent serves as
the principal individual responsible for the ongoing review and
assessment of damaged library materials for review and assessment of
damaged library materials for decisions on retention, conservation,
binding, reordering or withdrawal. Also, serves as the primary resource
for preservation-related questions received from other members of the
library staff, and assists in the development of policies for special
handling of materials damaged by flood or any other emergency situation
that may arise. Master's degree in Library Science, Conservation,
Materials Science, or a related field, and two years preservation
experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience is
required. Knowledge of conservation principles, techniques and
procedures as relating to a wide variety of materials and demonstrated
through previous relevant experience in a research or academic
institution; knowledge of the organization and administrative policies
and procedures of libraries and archives. Bibliographic literacy in the
widest possible range of languages is helpful. The position also
requires strong communication and analytical skills, the ability to work
independently and with others, and to excel in a dynamic team
environment, as well as well-developed organizational, research, and
analytical skills. Experience with a local online system, Innovative
Interfaces preferred. Familiarity with Windows desktop, word processing,
e-mail and Internet resources and tools preferred.
