Dartmouth College is a highly selective undergraduate college with distinguished professional schools of business, engineering, medicine and 20 graduate programs in the arts and sciences, serving approximately 4,000 undergraduate and 1,800 professional and graduate students. The College has been at the forefront of American higher education since its founding in 1769. At the heart of Dartmouth College is one of the oldest research libraries in the United States. Eight libraries, distributed across various academic centers, house the 2.5 million volume print collection and provide access to a rich array of digital resources, supported by a technically robust networked environment. The College Library has an annual budget in excess of $20 million; more than $6 million supports the acquisition of print and digital material. The Dartmouth College Library is an active member in many organizations, including the Northeast Research Libraries (NERL) consortium, the Digital Library Federation (DLF), the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) and the Association of Research Libraries (ARL). ** The Dartmouth College Library is reorganizing its collections and information management functions to better align operations and strategy with the rapidly changing environment in scholarly communication, publishing and underlying information technologies. Dartmouth seeks to recruit energetic, service-oriented professionals for the following two senior positions, both members of the Library Administrative Group:
1. ) ASSOCIATE LIBRARIAN FOR INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, is responsible for the Library's Information Management Services, including leadership of Cataloging & Metadata Services, Digital Library Services, Digital Library Technologies, and Preservation Services. Responsible for the management and delivery of the Library's information resources, including leadership for library portal development and its tools and services. Represents Dartmouth College Library in regional and national forums related to library information technology and in collaborative projects with peer institutions.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA/MLS with an advanced graduate degree in a relevant subject area preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in an academic or research library; substantial experience in the management of information technology; and budget management and planning experience. Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.
RANK & SALARY: Commensurate with experience, with a minimum salary of $90,000 plus comprehensive benefits package and relocation assistance.
2. ) ASSOCIATE LIBRARIAN FOR INFORMATION RESOURCES
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, is responsible for the Library's collections development and management programs, including leadership of some 30 reference/bibliographers across the Library system. Responsible for the Library's Acquisitions Department and related digital resources operations, including leadership of the Library's scholarly communications program. Represents Dartmouth College Library in regional and national collection management and development arenas and in collaborative projects with peer institutions.
QUALIFICATIONS: ALA/MLS with an advanced graduate degree in a relevant subject area preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in an academic or research library; substantial experience in managing and developing major research print and digital collections; and budget management and planning experience.
