[PADG:842] Brief Report from PADG at ALA Midwinter
Preservation Administration DG
January 21, 2006
8:00 AM-12:00 PM
Approx Number of Participants: 92
This Discussion Group began with four break-out groups
simultaneously discussing topics of recent interest on the PADG
listserv. Bob Harriman of Preservation Technologies led a
discussion about future directions in preservation management.
Karen Brown of SUNY Albany led a discussion about an Inter-Library Loan
sticker policy. Nancy Kraft of the University of Iowa led a
discussion about the role of PARS in regional disaster response.
Cathy Mook-Martyniak of the University of Florida led a discussion about
the creation of institutional repositories. Following the group
discussions, each group leader reported items of interest and conclusions
to the whole meeting.
Action Item to the PARS Management Committee: The attendees at
PADG recommended by unopposed vote that the draft Inter-Library Loan
Sticker Policy document be moved forward for approval.
Connie Brooks of Stanford University reported on the nature and
status of the Audit Checklist for Certifying Digital Repositories and
answered questions about the document. Jeanne Drewes of Michigan
State University reported on the status of three PARS publications
currently in the ALCTS process and requested that additional PARS members
consider publishing through ALCTS.
During the break, attendees were able to view eight posters on a variety
of preservation topics.
Alfred Lemmon of Historic New Orleans reported about his and his
institution's experiences during and after Hurricanes Katrina and
Rita. It was a sobering tale of how little control one has when the
infrastructure of a region is destroyed. Tom Connors of the
University of Maryland followed with an update on Heritage Emergency
National Task Force activities.
