Title: When Bad Things Happen to Nice Libraries: Building an
Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Program
Date: 6/24/2006
Time: 10:30 AM- 12:00PM
Location: Morial Convention Center room: Rm. 352
Description: Libraries have policies addressing many aspects of
security, but formulating a response to a major disaster defies easy
solution. Every library must plan for fire, flood, earthquake or
other destructive event, both to protect staff and preserve the
collections. In addition, the library's fiduciary responsibility
requires some policy to be in place. Speakers will address the
issues involved in drafting a policy and some actual catastrophic
experiences. Participants will come away with the perspective and
skills to construct a practical response to an extreme situation.
Speakers:
Sharman Bridges Smith, Executive Director, Mississippi Library
Commission
Eric Wedig, Chief Bibiliographer for Social Sciences and Government
Publications, Howard-Tilton Memorial Library,Tulane University
Steven Hersh, The Library of Congress
Dean Lance Query, Acting Director, Tulane Law School Library
