Out of curiosity, I put together a new table in the Access database that I use to track all the materials that I repair or replace at Sibley Music Library. It includes everything that was lost or stolen since 1998, when I started keeping comprehensive records. I've got 821 records on replaced parts, scores and books from those 8 years. If anyone is interested, I can break those down into useful categories (lost parts vs. whole items, lost vs. stolen, replacement in print with cost or by photocopy, etc.). I know to start that about 100 of those 800 items were all stolen by one person over a two-year period.
