Library Management Skills Institute I: The Manager
June 6, 7 and 8, 2007
Standish Room, 3rd Floor of the Science Library
University at Albany, State University of New York, Main Campus
During three intensive days, participants in this Association of
Research Libraries core learning event explore essential aspects of
effective leadership and management. Aimed at helping supervisors, team
leaders, and middle managers within libraries, media centers, or
information technology units, this institute helps individuals hone the
skills needed in new environments where decision making is distributed
throughout the organization and coaching and influencing are expected
functions of the manager or team leader.
Competencies gained or enhanced by this institute include:
* Practicing facilitative leadership
* Recognizing and expanding one's ability to influence others
* Making effective decisions
* Understanding behavioral styles and preferences
* Working in groups and teams
* Coaching employees to resolve performance problems
Who Should Attend?
* Current supervisors/managers
* Prospective supervisors/managers
* Team leaders
* Library administrators
Is This Institute Right for Me? Participants will have a more successful
experience if they meet the following criteria:
* Ability to commit three full days (9 am-5 pm)
* Willingness to participate in large & small group discussions,
experiential activities, and self-assessment
* Interest in learning new skills and approaches
The ARL Library Management Skills Institute I: The Manager will take
place June 6, 7 and 8 from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm in the Standish Room on
the third floor of the Science Library. Registration is $ 500.00 for
ARL members and $ 600 for non-ARL members. This fee includes lunch and
refreshments each day and a reception on June 6. Please register by May
