I know of a few folks who are using the Atiz DIY scanner: http://diy.atiz.com/ I don't know the exact angle of the cradle, but it looks like its over 90-degree. However, its auto-centering mechanism is quite nice, and it includes the mounts for cameras. 

I've been talking with a few libraries in Texas about designing a true build-it-yourself solution at a lower price point, but we haven't progressed to actual diagrams yet. If anyone else has done it, please share the plans!
