PARS Forum – Midwinter 2009 Iowa Libraries Recover and Thrive in the Aftermath of the June 2008 Midwest Flooding
The ALA Midwinter Meeting for the PARS Forum will be held at the Colorado Convention Center in Room 702 on Sunday, January 25th from 4.00 – 5.30 p.m.
Several weeks of severe weather caused rivers to breach their banks and levees, reservoirs to overflow, and towns to be inundated with flooding in several Midwestern states including Iowa. The June flooding devastated corn and soy bean crops, closed major highways, halted barge traffic, and forced evacuations. The PARS forum will include a panel of speakers to discuss how they coped with the flooding and their salvage efforts of library and archival materials at the University of Iowa Libraries, Cedar Rapids Public Library, African American Museum of Iowa, and the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.
