[ARSCLIST] Tonight at the LIbrary of Congress
Dial Records
For this month's ARSC program discographer Geoffrey Wheeler will
discuss his forthcoming discography of the Dial Record Label. Best
known for releasing the some of Charlie Parker's best studio recordings,
Dial Records also featured other important bebop greats such as Dizzy
Gillespie, Howard McGhee, Dodo Marmaros, Dextor Gordon, James Moody,
Erroll Garner, and Don Lanphere. The label also reissued recordings by
such figures in "historical jazz" as Sidney Bechet, Earl Hines, and
Willie "the Lion" Smith. Mr. Wheeler will discuss Ross Russell's
founding of this important independent label and detail its move to New
York and later development.
