Re: [ARSCLIST] AW: [ARSCLIST] Advice for filtering surface noise

Hello,

I have experience with the Packburn devices and have used them since they were invented. If properly and carefully used, they do not affect the signal but only reduce the noise, especially ticks, pops, and the remaining steady noise. To use the Packburn you must play the discs in stereo with appropriate styli. The device operates on both 78-rpm discs and LP's and was designed for monaural discs, though it has some effect on stereo recordings.

Sincerely, Richard

Thank you for the answers.

I would like to do both.
Listening to the 78s and transfer them to DAT.

Cleaning records and different sizes of styli are not the problems for me.
I have twenty-three styli (both conical and elliptical) and a Nitty Gritty
model 2.5 Fi MKII.

I will try to play the records in stereo.

I wouldn't like to use any computer.

Have somebody experiences with the Packburn reducer

Hello Otto,

I suppose the first question I have is: What is the end product of your
playback of the records? In other words, are you just listening to the
78's in real time, or do want to copy them and clean them up to final
digital or magnetic analogue copies?

If it's in real time, the clean up tools are different than if you are
digitizing to a computerized program.
