----- two approaches have been tried successfully:
- at what was for a period called FilmSoundAustralia they successfully made
loose pieces expand by the absorption of solvent (fume cupboard!); they were
reattached in the correct relationship and replayed
- the Swiss Institute of Technology developed a trailing optical fiber that
could track a groove by being pulled along it as the record rotated in the
normal way. This certainly does not get any grip on the tip of the fiber, and
you can get a signal, however, I would expect some loss of high frequencies.
It was certainly developed into a well-functioning prototype, but I have not
seen any commercialization.
