That's a valid perspective and if quality loss were a totally linear
thing, then I would agree.
However, 2x copying does not introduce linear loss (in the broad
sense). For example, most of the loss in 2x copying occurs at 8 kHz
and above on the original. If the original has little or no
information at 8 kHz and above, then this apparently quality loss
would have no effect on the copies, and Kevin has doubled his
throughput with no meaningful loss.
I still prefer real time, multiple channels vs. higher speed for most
throughput increases. NOA software out of Austria supports that model
and has for years.
