LP weights (12" discs).  For older LPs in the sleeves, about 45 lbs per 100 
is right.  Beeware.  The Europeans use a thinner cardboard rather than the 
chipboard usually found here.  There are more records per foot and are 
therefore heavier as a result.  Tlis laater group includes Philips, DGG, 
EMI, etc.

LP boxes.  The normal moving box- the No. 1 book box- as found in U-Haul 
stores, etc, used to be 12-1/2x12-1/2x 16 inside.  Some were 15" long.  Some 
places still have these, though many recent ones I've seen don't make the 
200 lb strength designation for sturdiness.

At some point after the demise of the mass-market LP, the innards shrunk 
1/4" and the box length was stretched.  These are no good for LPs.

If you have European boxed sets which are slightly larger, as are records 
with outer plastic sleeves.  U-Line (they are on line) offers a 12-3/4 x 
12-3/4 by 13-1/2 interior but it loads from the top rather than opens 
lengthwise.

The old long box sets go into the good book boxes sideways.  I always pack 
them separately.

Shipping.  If moving a big collection via a rental truck, be aware that, 
since 9/11 or so, they have to go through weigh stations.  The gas trucks 
carry bulk but not much weight.  The ones with liftgates and with Diesel 
motors carrly a much greater load.  Most of the latter, however, are not 
one-way as they are owned by the franchisee from whom you rent them.  This 
may have changed in the last year.

I've used pods.  Check with suppliers for weight restrictions- they vary 
widely.

Sending them by freight is often less expensive but requires better packing 
and extra attention to labeling.  I don't recall it, but there is a code for 
used plastic somethings which is a lower per hundred lb charge.  Someone 
else on the list will probalby be able to furnish it.
