The point is this...about six million sides (my estimate) were recorded
on 78rpm phonorecords. A small portion of those were also made available
on vinyl microgroove phonorecords...but the vast majority exist ONLY as
78rpm phonorecords (or in some few cases, the "metal parts" used to
create same...!).
I own about 50,000 78rpm phonorecords (or 100,000 tunes, give or take)
and I would guess that 98-99% of those have never been reissued...so
the only way I can hear them is to play my 78rpm phonorecords!
All one can do is bemoan the fact that improved methods weren't
available when the records were made...which is much like saying
"such and such would never had occured had radio (or wotever)
been available at that time...!"
Consider all the 19th-century "stars" who were never...in fact, could
not have been...recorded!
