Untrue. These kind of websites (including the dreaded allmusic.com 
where they get much of their (mis)information) don't know release 
date from recording date - and this data has been "licensed" or 
propagated all over the web. Do not trust.

November 28, 1977 was the *recording* date. The back cover and the LP 
label both state, "Recorded at Sound Ideas Studio, New York City [or 
N.Y.C.], November 28, 1977." The LP label shows a (p) date of 1978.
