Well, I can't afford to hire a lawyer to translate...but it appears, at least to me,
that the revised Law doesn't (Gott sei dank...!) replace the 50-year (or so)
term of sound recordings in Canada with its US of A counterpart (basically
"eternity plus five more years"...!)

It DOES however give them the right to fine you for recording anything and playing it back anytime anywhere forever, probably including anything you videotaped 25 years ago. Since our government can't even keep secret documents out of train cars or their girlfriends' apartments, let alone find their posterior without a GPS, I don't think we'll be getting a knock on the door and jackboots going for our iPods just yet.

I assume you mean "recording anything THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY RECORDED
BY ANOTHER PARTY and playing it back FOR THE PUBLIC"...right? Otherwise,
I'm breakin' the county law by listening to my old cassettes...some of 78's, some
taken off the radio, and some recorded at my own performances...!

Note that Canadian sound recordings still have copyright terms of 50 years (plus
some months, to be exact)...so CRIA weren't successful in getting the US of A
"infinite" term they were hoping for!
