The Eisenhower Library began using shrink wrap about six years ago, after 
reading about its use at Ohio State.  We have a Sergeant model 92416-LR 
Shrinktunnel manufactured by Allied Automation, Inc.   It is a 220-volt, 12 
amp unit with adjustable speed and temp and it needs to be vented to the 
outside.    We use a 120-volt device manufactured by M. Latter to cut the 
wrapping film.  We have had no problems with either piece of 
equipment.  The film is Dupont Clysar EHC, described by the company as a 
"predominantly polypropylene polyolefin film."    See the following URL for

The library wrapped 3155 volumes last year.  We shrinkwrap brittle and very 
brittle items which are not intact and cannot be repaired and which the 
collection development librarians have decided not to replace or reformat.

We have found shrinkwrapping to be a highly cost-effective alternative to 
phase boxing.
