Title: PARS Discussion Group at ALA
Hello
Sarah,
I've mislaid the e-mail correspondence from a PARS
person whose name I've forgotten (that's how the e-mail is mislaid...!). He
had asked if I would be coming to ALA, which unfortunately I'm not. He was
interested in hearing more about the Sibley Public Domain Request project, which
has been rather taking over our selection rpocess, but I think to good
results.
I had
offered to send along a brief description of the project and its results so far,
but didn't get around to it. I'm hoping that sending you a copy of the promised
description will do the job in the end!
So
here it is, attached. It's actually based on an article that Jim Farrington, our
Head of Public Services, wrote for the September 2004 Muse as we were just
starting the program -- but I've updated it, including my evaluation of how it's
gone so far. If, as seems all too possible, you don't get this message until
you're already in San Antonio, please do feel free to forward this message to
anyone who wants it rather than printing out copies -- that way they can use the
links easier anyhow. Hope it's useful!
And I
hope it's a great discussion!

Please join us at ALA Midwinter Conference in San Antonio for
the
Preservation and Reformatting Section Discussion Group
on Sunday
January 22, 4:00pm
in the Conv Center room: Room 217C
We will be
revisiting the Google Print project (with representatives from University of
Michigan) and hearing about the Persistence of Memory Conference from the
NEDCC.
Food and drink policies are also a highly requested topic and we
can open the floor up to that discussion as time and demand permit (The
discussion group is scheduled for two hrs 4-6pm).
See you in San
Antonio.
