*After the Iowa Floods: Salvaging recording media collections*
Nancy Kraft, Preservation Librarian, Univ. of Iowa Libraries
Nancy will describe the University of Iowa Libraries salvage of recording media
collections following the devastating Iowa floods of 2008. Come get some great
tips for salvaging recording media and share your own experiences. For a

*Discuss merger of the Recording Media and Reformatting Discussion Groups and
review draft charge for the new Digital Conversion IG (below).
*Brainstorm ideas for annual, future programs, publications, etc.
*Solicit new co-chairs
*Round robin (updates on projects, conferences/workshop reports, etc.)

Draft charge for new Digital Conversion IG:
A venue for ALA members to discuss:
* the preservation of audio, photographic, and moving image materials in
both analog and digital formats
* digitization or reformatting of audio, photographic, print, and moving
image materials for preservation and access
Topics for discussion might include:
*Assessing preservation needs of audio, photographic and moving image
collections
*Standards and/or best practices for care and handling, disaster
recovery, storage, stabilization, and digitization (both in-house and
out-sourced)
*Updates on conferences & other educational opportunities, case studies
& funding opportunities
*Education, instruction, and outreach related to the above areas
The interest group will report any program ideas, publications,
educational tools, and training generated by the discussion group to the PARS
Preservation Standards & Practices Committee.
Co-chairs will facilitate the group and one co-chair will sit on the
PARS Program Planning & Publications Committee.
